Our Services

Prosthetics

Prosthetists work with patients who have experienced a partial or total absence of a limb to design and fit prosthetic devices with the goal of maintaining independence and improving mobility. A limb difference can be the result of a number of different factors including congenital (from birth) conditions, or amputation due to trauma, vascular complications, infections, or other medical conditions.

Orthotics

Orthotists work with external bracing or splints that control and support existing joints that may require extra support or protection. Orthotic devices can have both short- and long-term goals and include bracing of the joints in the leg and arm, foot orthotics, compression stockings, spinal bracing, and cranial helmets.

Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists work as part of a team that includes the patient, their support system(s), technicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors, nurses, and other specialists.

Our Team

Matt LeBlanc CP(c), BSc (Eng)

Owner & Certified Prosthetist

Matt purchased the business from Allan Menzies in October 2023 after moving back to New Brunswick with his family. After growing up a short drive away in Oromocto, Matt is looking forward to getting to work and growing a clinic that has served the local population since it’s start in 1920.

Matt completed his undergraduate degree in Mechanical engineering at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. After graduating from UNB he worked with Allan and Laurie Menzies here at A.R. Menzies & Sons which led him to pursuing a career in prosthetics. He completed degrees in both the technical fabrication and clinical application of prosthetics and orthotics from George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario. After graduating, Matt completed a prosthetic residency at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. While he loved his time in Hamilton with their great team the plan was always to end up back on the East Coast near family and friends.

Before settling in Fredericton, Matt spent time working in the prosthetics department at Metro Health Services in Saint John, NB. After joining the team at A.R. Menzies & Sons, he has continued covering for prosthetic patients in Saint John. Matt is looking forward to diving in head first to serve the community here in NB with the care they deserve.

If he isn’t at the clinic, you can find him out running, playing video games, on a road trip with his wife Caitlyn & goldendoodle Atlas, or trying out new pubs.

Barry Rothenberg CO(c), CPO(E), BSc

Certified Orthotist

Barry has been working in the field of orthotics for over 40 years, receiving his education at New York University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics he received his orthotics certification in 1983 and became dual-certified (CPO) in 1985. He moved to Canada in 2004 and loved the lifestyle it provided. In 2007 Barry wrote his Canadian Certification Exam and became a Canadian Certified Orthotist. Barry is a past certification examiner for OPC (Orthotics Prosthetic Canada) and just received his emeritus certification from the American Board for Certification after retiring his credentials in the USA.

Barry works very closely with health care providers at the Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Facility in Fredericton, NB by attending weekly clinics and coordinating with the team there to ensure best possible patient care. Barry takes great pride in his work and his efforts speak for themselves – he has now worked at A.R. Menzies & Sons for over 20 years. We are very lucky to have such an experienced orthotist in our small town.

If you don’t find him at the clinic you may find him painting, restoring old furniture, playing poker, glamping, watching sports, hiking in the woods, or downtown enjoying the Saint John River.

Heather Menzies

office manager

Heather is the first face and voice you will encounter at the clinic. She is passionate about her job and is an integral part of the team by keeping the whole office in order – organizing all appointment times, insurance paperwork, communicating with patients, ordering componentry, and keeping inventory in check. She has worked for A.R. Menzies for over 20 years, being exposed to the field for her whole life. She has extensive knowledge into the prosthetic and orthotic field and is a huge asset to the company.

The business was started by Heathers great-grandfather in 1920 and passed down 3 generations. Born and raised on the East Coast, she grew up in the house adjacent to the clinic and still calls Fredericton home.

If you don’t see her at the front desk, you can find her out walking with her golden retriever Arlo, checking out a local craft show, doing puzzles, knitting, crocheting, visiting the cottage or exploring the province and making lasting memories with her husband Greg and their daughter Ava.

Caitlyn Norton

clinic manager

Born and raised on the East Coast, Caitlyn is returning home to Fredericton after working in Ontario for over six years. After working in retail pharmacy for 9+ years she is looking forward to using the skills she has accumulated in a new field as she joins the clinic as Clinic Manager.

Caitlyn is excited for a change of pace and to bring new life into this 100+ year old business. As a lifelong learner and self starter, she will be taking on many of the background roles including payroll and overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, and the day-to-day accounting. While taking over the clinic has been a learning curve it has always been a dream to live a life by design. Learning the ins and outs of owning a small successful business has been challenging in all the best ways.

In her off time, you can find her snuggled up with her goldendoodle Atlas, reading a good book, road tripping around the East Coast with her husband Matt, relaxing in an Airbnb on the ocean or in a coffee shop sipping a warm drink.
